Professional Therapy

Professional Speech Therapy
The Centre aims to provide professional one-on-one speech therapy for children with speech delay from low-income families and to facilitate their communication and social skills. Speech therapists work out the treatment plans in partnership with parents, the parents are encouraged to join the training sessions to learn the skills and techniques so that they can carry out the speech practices at home. This will facilitate the progress of a child’s speech development tremendously. In the fiscal year, the Centre conducted 6,605 sessions of individual speech therapy.
Occupational Therapy
In view of the needs of occupational therapy from our children, the Centre started to provide a more diversified service to the children with the introduction of one-on-one occupational therapy in November 2018, with Motor Skills Developmental Training, Sensory Integration Therapy and Visual-Perceptual Training etc. The children had remarkable improvement with the occupational therapy training, in complementing to speech therapy.
In the first stage the Centre arranged occupational therapy to children under ‘Training Subsidy for Children who were on the Waiting List of Subvented Pre-school Rehabilitation Services’ from the Social Welfare Department, and provided the training to other centre cases in the second stage. Parents reflected that with speech therapy and occupational therapy together, the children had remarkable improvement and appreciated the additional diversified service provided by the Centre. In the fiscal year, the Centre provided 472 sessions of one-on-one occupational therapy to the children.

Dyslexia Training
Recent data from the Hong Kong Education Bureau indicates a substantial rise in the number of school-aged children assessed as having dyslexia. This trend aligns with the growing recognition of the importance of addressing relevant learning needs. Children receiving services at the Center exhibit varying degrees of dyslexia. Delayed intervention can adversely impact their academic performance, emotional regulation, and social development. In response to this, the Center implemented the “One-to-One Dyslexia Training Program” in May 2020. Professional tutors tailor teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of each student, enhancing their language comprehension and writing abilities. Parents’ feedback has demonstrated that not only have their children’s learning capabilities improved, but their self-confidence has also been bolstered. This has led to increased willingness for active participation in text-related activities. The center conducted 774 dyslexia training sessions in the fiscal year.
